iREHOME Adoptions:  This Isn’t Just an Adoption. It’s a Lifeline

When you adopt an iREHOME dog, you’re not just giving a dog a second chance—you’re helping a family, a finder, or someone in crisis do the right thing. These dogs are not in our care, but in the loving hands of people who are doing everything they can to keep them safe until they find the right home. You're a part of that story.

Why iREHOME Adoptions Matter

Every iREHOME adoption keeps one more dog out of a shelter, and every adopter helps a person or family in need. Here’s how you make a difference:

Support a Family in Need

Many dogs in this program come from homes that can no longer care for them due to hardship—not lack of love.

Prevent Shelter Intake

Adopting directly from the iREHOME program helps reduce overcrowding and gives shelters room to save more dogs.

Support Everyday Heroes

Some dogs are found by compassionate people who can’t keep them, but choose to step up rather than leave them on the streets or in a shelter.

You Still Apply Through TLP

Even though these dogs aren’t in our care, we offer the same lifetime support, resources, and community as we do for every TLP adoption.

"We had an absolutely fantastic experience with the iRehome program. They were able to assist in facilitating us meeting Kratos quickly. From the moment we met him (formerly Captain) we knew he was destined to become part of our family. We were given plenty of support and resources by The Love Pit. His temperament fit right in with our other two pups. He’s so well behaved and mild mannered. So much so in fact we had him trained as a service dog for my husband. Thank you so much to the Love Pit for the support and making the process so easy, seamless and giving us a chance to welcome another member to our family."

FAQs

Have questions about adopting through iREHOME?
We’ve got answers to help guide you through this unique adoption process.

  • iREHOME dogs are not in TLP's care—they remain with their current owner or foster finder until adopted. All iRehome behavior and medical information is provided by the dog's care-taker, and TLP encourages all adopters to verify the information with the caretaker prior to adoption

  • Yes. All iREHOME dogs must be vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and temperament-reviewed before being listed. Unlike TLP dogs, iREHOME dogs are not individually evaluated in person by our intake team and they are not in our foster homes. All iRehome behavior and medical information is provided by the dog's caretaker, and TLP encourages all adopters to verify the information with their caretaker prior to adoption.

  • Absolutely. Once approved, we help coordinate a meet-and-greet at a neutral location with the current caretaker.

  • The dog’s current caretaker always makes the final decision. Our team reviews each adoption application and provides guidance and recommendations, but ultimately, the person who knows the dog best decides where they go. We’re here to support both the caretaker and adopter to ensure the process is smooth, informed, and focused on finding the best possible match.

  • Yes! Even though iREHOME dogs are not adopted directly from TLP, you’ll still receive the same level of support we provide to all TLP adopters. This includes lifetime access to training resources, invitations to our free monthly training meet-ups, and a place in our iREHOME Alumni community. Whether you need help with behavior questions, training guidance, or just want to stay connected—we’re here for you long after adoption day.

  • The adoption fee for iREHOME dogs is typically set by the caretaker, with our guidance. We provide a suggested fee range to help ensure a safe, committed adoption. All fees are agreed upon before finalizing the adoption. The caretaker also has the option to donate the adoption fee to The Love Pit if they feel our team was instrumental in supporting the rehoming process.
