A Note from our Founder

Dear TLP Family,
As the founder of The Love Pit, I want to take a moment to thank you. Whether you are a long-time supporter or recently joined our mission, you are the reason we’re able to keep fighting for the dogs who need us most. Your commitment, love, and belief in a better world for bully breeds fuel everything we do.
This year marks our 10-year anniversary—a full decade since the day I found Sweet Pea, the dog who changed my life and inspired the creation of this organization. It’s hard to put into words what this milestone means. We've rescued, rehabilitated, and helped thousands of dogs. We've fought against stigma and stood up for the misunderstood. We’ve laughed, cried, grown, and endured more than we ever imagined—and we’re still standing strong.
I am so incredibly proud of everything we’ve accomplished and all that we’ve overcome to get here. Our volunteers and TLP community are truly something special—a rare breed. The heart and soul you pour into this mission is what makes The Love Pit unlike any other. I love this community with my whole heart.

The reality is, the current state of animal welfare is more challenging than ever. Nationwide, adoptions are declining, especially for large dogs like the ones we serve. Shelters are overflowing, and the average length of stay for dogs continues to rise. It’s heartbreaking, but not hopeless.
Here at The Love Pit, we are committed to doing what we’ve always done: getting creative, staying grounded, and showing up. We can’t control everything, but we can control how we respond. That means doubling down on what we do best:
Innovating solutions to get dogs adopted faster and more successfully
Improving internal communication so our team stays connected and aligned
Making the adoption process easy, inclusive, and free of judgment while always prioritizing the safety and well-being of our dogs
Removing barriers to fostering by creating flexible, supported pathways that set both people and dogs up for success
Expanding our brand awareness and strengthening our reputation as a responsible, impactful bully breed rescue
Improving our headquarters facility to create a more effective and welcoming space for volunteers, staff, and dogs
We have the power to shape the future for these dogs—not just here in Texas, but across the country. Every adoption, every foster, every training session, every share on social media matters. It’s going to take all of us.
If The Love Pit has impacted your life, we ask you to consider making a donation in honor of our 10-year anniversary. Your support today will fuel the next decade of rescue, advocacy, and transformation for bully breeds in need.
Let’s keep building. Let’s keep pushing. Let’s save the bully breeds.
With Love,
Aften
